Make your professional status easy to understand

Use your actual nursing title and describe the setting in which you worked or trained. Distinguish employment, supervised placement, and study. List qualifications and registration status accurately when relevant to the application. Requirements depend on the role and location; check the vacancy and the appropriate professional authority for current requirements.

The sample below is fictional and shows resume wording only. It is not clinical guidance and does not establish that a person is qualified for a nursing role. Adapt the wording to your actual scope and experience, and never add a procedure or responsibility you did not perform.

Describe teamwork and documentation

Useful examples can explain how you contributed to handovers, maintained records, coordinated with colleagues, or followed the unit’s established processes. Keep descriptions professional and specific without revealing patient identities or details that could identify an individual. The resume should show your work, not reproduce a case record.

Where an experience involved supervision, state that clearly. If you include training or certifications, use their correct names and current status. Do not present an expired or in-progress credential as current. Avoid broad claims about patient outcomes that you cannot reasonably attribute to your own work.

  • Identify the work setting and the nature of your role.
  • Keep patient information out of examples and linked files.
  • Include only skills that reflect your actual training and experience.

Tailor within your real experience

Review the vacancy for the setting, responsibilities, and credentials it requests. Bring forward relevant experience and explain transferable responsibilities where appropriate. A clear account of your background helps the employer assess fit more effectively than a long list of unsupported clinical keywords.
